Museum Exhibit: Historically Significant Artifacts of Ancient China

Ancient China developed many innovations that greatly shaped its civilization and influenced the world around them. Among the most historically important artifacts are oracle bones, the Great Wall, and silk. Each of these artifacts show how Ancient China advanced politically, economically, and also culturally.

Oracle bones were used during the Shang Dynasty for divination and record keeping. They contain some of the earliest examples of Chinese writing. This allowed rulers to communicate ideas and preserve information, oracle bones played an important role in the development of Chinese civilization.¹

The Great Wall of China was built to protect Chinese states from invasions and raids. Although different dynasties at the time contributed to its construction, the wall became a symbol of strength and unity. It helped defend trade routes and demonstrated the power of Chinese governments over large territories.²

Silk was another historically significant development because it became one of China’s most valuable trading goods. Chinese silk has been traded across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe through the Silk Road. This trade increased wealth and spread Chinese culture, technology, and ideas to other civilizations.³

All three of these artifacts together demonstrate how Ancient China created lasting achievements that influenced communication, defence, and global trade for centuries.
